“Providing our members with the resources to advance good nutrition for Michigan’s children”
We are the state affiliate of the School Nutrition Association (SNA), a non-profit professional association representing 60,000 members involved in the school food service industry. SNAM represents over 1,600 food service personnel in Michigan. Membership in both organizations is open to persons engaged in school food service or related activities in public, non-public schools, and colleges and universities.

Greetings from your President,
Welcome to the School Nutrition Association of Michigan website!
I am very excited to be your President for the coming year as we have many important things to accomplish in the next few years.
From new state nutrition standards to the national changes coming our way through state and national legislation, we will all be pressed to stay abreast.
I hope that being a member of SNAM and SNA will help you to keep apprized of the changes as they happen.
SNA has always been a strong voice for us on the national issues and SNAM hopes to do the same in Michigan.
Part of my platform for the year is to strengthen the ties that we have with MDE, MSBO, and SNA.
MDE is working very closely with our School Food Service Training Task Force to offer you the classes we need to prepare for the challenges ahead. We will all need to “up our game” to stay abreast of these changes. MDE is offering plenty of help to implement the new nutrition standards and prepare us for CRE’s and nutrition reviews.
MSBO is offering a new certification for food service directors to strengthen our ties with Michigan School Business Officials and we are working hard to incorporate their classes into ours for a dual track and to be able to offer the classes at our conference as well as theirs. MSBO graciously allows us meeting space when available for our board functions, and I thank them very much for the central location and use of their facilities.
SNA has implemented the district owned membership to allow districts to have all their staff as members and this works especially well if you receive a stipend from you district to be certified. With the passage of the new professional standards, this will help us greatly to train and certify staff. SNA has lobbied tirelessly for the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010. Their efforts on our behalf have been enormous in the past 2 years.
I hope you can find all help you need to advance the mission of good nutrition for Michigan’s children on this website and in your organization!
Diann Tosh SNS, President
School Nutrition Association of Michigan
